2020: Alberta Unemployment Rate Highest in Recorded History (44 Years)

Unemployment Rate

The number of people who are unemployed as a percentage of the active labour force (i.e. employed and unemployed). For this indicator seasonally adjusted estimates are shown.

 

Note that Alberta is one of the hardest-hit provinces in Canada this year, second to only Newfoundland.

In November 2020, Alberta’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 11.1%, up from 7.2% in November 2019 and up 0.4% from October 2020. The national unemployment rate was 8.5% in November 2020, up from 5.9% in the same period in 2019.
