Dr. Amani trained and worked as a physician in our health care system before leaving to establish a private practice which focuses on holistic health, illness prevention, and mental and emotional well-being. She is the host of the Dr. Ned Show at amani.health.

On weight training to treat depression…

“There was a gym around the corner from my office in Toronto at that time. So I just went and did personal training. I did two sets with resistance training and started to feel a lot better. I was just like, ‘Oh my God, this is the pill that I needed’. I was feeling a lot better. I was feeling happier. My back pain had gone. I was feeling stronger, better than I ever had. Even in my early 20s.”

On finding meaning and purpose in life, and the better physical and emotional health that results…

“If you had 10 million dollars in the bank what kind of work would you do? More than 50 percent of people say they wouldn’t be doing the work that they’re doing right now. This is a really important factor in people’s well-being. If you’re not doing the work that you were meant to do, that your soul came here on this planet and incarnated to do, then you’re going to be sick. You’re going to be sick mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually. And so a lot of people will be like, ‘I don’t know what I was meant to do’. So then that becomes a journey of discovering what your soul really wants you to do. How do you want to make an impact?”

On healing separations in our relationships…

“Separation of the mind and the body. Separation of our body parts in terms of health and well-being. Separation between races, colors, ideologies, believer or nonbeliever. Now it’s vaccinated and unvaccinated. So my message is, can we see the oneness? Can we really live out that oneness within ourselves and then within our relationships on a daily basis? Can I just look at them as another human being without judgment, without labelling? And that starts with ourselves.”
