In Part 2 of our interview with Kyle Kemper, the half brother of prime minister Trudeau we discuss the ideas in his recently published, CanaDAO: How We Return Power to the People. Applying his knowledge of the DAO model, Kyle explains how literally everyone can benefit from utilizing a DAO system to engage as citizens and promote democracy. Tune in to learn how DAO can bring about tangible solutions in repairing a broken democratic system.

On Kyle’s insights into Justin, as his half brother (0:00-10:13 Also in Part 1)

What is a DAO?…

The DAO model can be used to revolutionize society, communities, projects, associations, parties or groups that have a shared purpose they want to create. We need structures in order to help facilitate co-creation. DAOs represent this and I’m of the opinion right now we are on the bleeding edge of the DAO inflection point where we’re going to see just an insane number of these come together because the tools are all being built. There’s lots of different ones; there was this constitution DAO that raised $45 million to buy the original US Constitution. They failed in actually buying it. It sold for more than that, but that DAO was created with a singular purpose of this.

On real-world examples of a DAO…

Every Canadian having essentially an app that would use your fingerprint or your face ID or whatever that gives you the ability to [securely] vote on issues. The Emergencies Act for example, do we need to declare this? Let’s see what the people actually say. Should we be able to freeze bank accounts? Should we spend $2.5 billion on single use, rapid tests coming from China that potentially don’t do anything? And it could be, we don’t really know much about them. Or, it could be do we want to build another bridge between Ottawa and Gatineau. Allowing people to vote on those types of things and [promote civic] engagement…to enable people to submit proposals for things and potentially crowdfund for proposals for things. Opportunities for DAO are limitless.
